Interteam Challenges 2011-12 Rules of Play

The Interteam Challenges were established to complete the Internal Ranking system for the WPTC ladder.  The intention is to allow the two highest ranked players on a team to challenge the team above and if successful, thereby strengthen that team.  If the existing bottom two players on a team remain, then they have preserved their team/ladder   positions.

  1. The Interteam Challenges occur following the end of the league season, as detailed in the challenge schedule.  As these will take place after the regular season, regular practice time may be used as well as non-practice time.  Challenges have priority for court reservations during this week.  An Interteam Challenge Match Schedule will be distributed showing the scheduling.  The Coordinator should be notified if the challenge dates and times are different from those appearing on the distributed schedule—challengers are responsible for reserving court time different from that appearing on the schedule.

  2. The challengers (top ranked players of the next lower team) should coordinate the court reservations, bring the balls, slips of paper for X’s and O’s, keep track and report the score to the Coordinator.

  3. The challenge involves playing three 12-game set rotations each day over two days, for a challenge total of 72 games.  To determine the order of play, the challenging players bring four slips of paper marked X1, X2, O1, O2.  Each player draws a slip.  X’s play first, then 1’s.  On the second day, using the results of the first day’s draw, the 1’s play together first and the X’s play together last.  Each player’s score is determined by adding up the number of games won over the two days of play.  Order the players high score to low score to determine the rank.  The entire foursome re-ranks according to the scores.  Ties are not broken but rather ladder order takes precedence.  Please call the Coordinator with the new ranking and scores.

  4. In the event a member of the foursome cannot or does not want to play, that person will drop to the bottom of the foursome.  The Coordinator will find an appropriate sub to play in lieu of that member.

  5. The new ladder, reflecting Interteam results, will be distributed via email to members on or before the day after the end of the Interteam challenge period.
