Wildcat challenges 2011-12 Rules of Play

If a ladder member feels that she is too low on the ladder for her ability, the player may do a wildcat challenge.

  1. A challenger must notify the Coordinator of her intentions, via email, as detailed in the challenge schedule.

  2. All wildcat challengers must attend a mandatory meeting in the paddle hut, at the date and time specified in the challenge schedule for selection of challenge groups.  Each ladder member may accept only ONE wildcat challenge.  If there are multiple challengers for the same part of the ladder, priority will be given to the higher ranked player, e.g. #35 picks first, #50 picks second, etc.  In the event a lottery is required, the coordinator has the discretion to require contiguous challenge groups so that unchallengeable gaps of one or two players are not left between groups.

  3. A challenger must challenge up at least 10 spaces (i.e. #30 would have to challenge at least as high as #20, 19, 18).  A challenge of 15 or more places on the ladder requires Coordinator approval.

  4. The challenger must set up the match, provide the balls, keep, and turn in the scores at the end of the challenge.  Before reserving court time, check with the coordinator to see if she has already blocked courts for the time you have arranged to play. If not, call the WPD Ice Rink or use the on-line reservation system to reserve the court time and e-mail the Coordinator to inform her of the dates and times.  Wildcat challenges must take place during the period specified in the challenge schedule.  NO EXTENSIONS!!

  5. The challenge must take place over two days with three 12-game sets played each day, for a total of 72 games for the entire challenge.  The challenger plays a 12 game set with each of the ladder members in the challenge group.  To determine order of play, the challenger brings four slips of paper marked X1, X2, O1, O2.  Each player picks a slip. X’s play first, then 1’s.  On the second day, using the results of the first day’s draw, the 1’s play together first and the X’s play together last.

  6. The score is determined by adding up the number of games won over the two days of play.  Order the players high score to low score to determine the order.  The challenger must beat two players and if she does so, she will earn the ladder spot just below the three ladder members.  If she beats all three players, she slots in above all three ladder members.

  7. An unsuccessful challenger must drop four positions from her original ladder spot.
